Troubleshooting: Member’s Payment Method Shows as “Pending” for Several Days

A member reports that their payment method is still showing as “Pending” in Yardi several days after it was added.

Why This Happens (Root Cause)

A “Pending” status typically occurs when a bank account was added but the verification process was not completed correctly. Yardi uses a small “penny test” deposit verification to confirm ownership of the account. If the member does not complete this step or enters incorrect account information, the payment method will remain in a pending state.

Credit or debit cards do not use verification deposits and should be instantly approved. If a card payment method is pending, it usually indicates the member entered invalid or duplicate information, or there is a system sync issue requiring review.

Common Symptoms

• “The member says their bank account is stuck on pending.”
• “Yardi shows the payment method as pending for more than a day.”
• “The member says they added their card, but it’s still not active.”
• “Payments can’t process because the account is still verifying.”

How to Fix It (Action Steps)

Begin by confirming what type of payment method the member added:
If it’s a bank account:
– Verify the member completed the penny test correctly, following the SOP for bank verification.
– Check that the account and routing numbers were entered correctly and not duplicated.
– Navigate to the Company → Payment Method section in Yardi and look for any error messages or failed verification notices.

If it’s a credit or debit card:
– These should be approved instantly. If pending, confirm the card number and expiration date were entered correctly.
– If all looks correct, the card record may be corrupt or duplicated; in that case, delete and re-add the payment method.

If all inputs are verified and the issue persists beyond 48 hours, submit a support ticket including the company name, payment method type, and any visible error message from the Payment Method section.

Quick Summary

Root Cause: The member’s payment method remains unverified due to incomplete or incorrect bank verification, duplicate entry, or a data sync issue.
Fix: Confirm the penny test was done correctly, verify details, and re-add or escalate if still pending.
System Behavior: Bank accounts require manual verification; credit cards should activate instantly.
